A New Idea Forms

Roughly three months ago, I decided I wanted to start a project. I was unsure the best route to take, or even what it was I wanted to build. It wasn't until I was doing some work for the Casterlabs Docs site, that I realised just how frustrated and fed up I was getting with the maintenance and management of the project.

When we launched the docs initially they were built on Jekyll. It was a good entry point in to my learning about site maintenance and as I had some experience with it, I was able to get up and running quickly. I've got a pretty good grasp of how things like Markdown etc work - which made writing the content easier to focus on. It just looked like such a simple and boring way of presentating a product that was very feature-rich, it needed some excitement to make it stand out.

Once I'd established a good starting point for the docs, we started to shop around for a new tool to replace the existing Jekyll setup. We settled on Docusaurus. It was a good choice as it was easy to get up and running, and had good support for Markdown content. It also offered a lot more flexibility and customisation options than Jekyll.

Two Years Later

We were settled, I'd learned a lot about how to manage the tool, and implemented my own customisations.
